I have no sound coming from my laptop aside from a very loud and annoying beep when i try to do something i can't. Original Title: my Multimedia Audio Controller driver needs to be reinstalled, so I can have sound on my computer. But it won't let me. What should I do? My computer has no sound to ti at all. And the reason why is because my Multimedia Audio Controller driver is messed up (it has the yellow '!' Exclamation mark next to it) when I go to Device Manager to update or reinstall it, it won't let me.. I get an error saying 'this computer does not have the necessary software to reinstall this driver'.. So, what software do I need? I've tried everything I can think of and nothing works. In order to diagnose the issue, you may check in device manager the device status of sound card: a. Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ in Start Run box and press Enter on the keyboard. In device manager, expand the sound card in the device list. Double click on it & check the information in device status. You may download & install the latest sound card drivers from the manufacturer’s website. Below is a list of drivers that may be suitable for your device. With the different devices, they can have the same driver, it's because they all use the same chip manufacturer. How to select driver? If you are looking for an update, pickup the latest one. If your driver isn't working, use the driver having the same OEM with the your laptop/desktop brand name. Download the xp driver from HP. Then right click on it, properties, run as administrator, then run in compatibility mode for xp2. Should work fine after that. Likehesaid Not very good advise at all. Very few, if any, XP drivers will work properly in Windows 7 because there is too much difference in the kernels!
